Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is a surgical procedure performed to decrease the size and weight of your breasts. If heavy breasts are causing you problems and you require a significant reduction, your surgery may be covered by OHIP.

Dr. Mahoney finds added benefit from liposuction on the lateral chest wall and sides of the breasts to enhance the overall shape and outcomes of the surgery.

However, it's important to note that liposuction is not a service covered by OHIP and not all breast reduction surgeries qualify for OHIP.

  • Dr. Mahoney prefers to use the best scarring method that will optimize the shape and volume of reduction in breast reduction surgery. Often, this involves an inverted T or anchor approach, although sometimes short vertical scar or lollipop techniques may be used.

  • The procedure is carried out under general anesthesia.

  • The procedure time is approximately 2.5 hours, with a recovery time of 2 weeks.

  • Upper body exercises may resume at 4 weeks.
