Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that is performed to reduce the size and weight of your breasts. If you experience a variety of problems from heavy breasts, your surgery may be an insured service by OHIP. In many cases, patients benefit from liposuction of the lateral chest wall (sides of the breasts) to improve the overall contour and results of surgery. Liposuction is not an insured service by OHIP.
Dr. Mahoney prefers to use minimal scarring techniques whenever possible when performing breast reductions.
Breast reduction surgery is carried out under general anesthesia. Procedure time is approximately 2 hours, with a recovery time of 2 weeks. Upper body exercises may resume at 4 weeks.
